Spoiler free review of Spider-Man 2. Wow. Amazing. 9.9/10.

Spider-Man 2 opens with a recap of the first movie using static drawings done by Alex Ross. This was a very interesting way to handle the recap.

I'll start off saying this was better than the first and thats saying alot since the first has become one of my favorite Superhero movies ever, hell one of my favorite movies period. This one covered so many elements that are essential to Spider-Man as a character. It condensed so many years of Spider-Man into a single 2 hour and 7 minute movie it was amazing. Even now a day later I'm not sure where to begin. Alferd Molina was PERFECT as Doc Ock. He had the right body type and captured the personality perfectly. The tentacles were creepy as hell.

The fight scenes perfectly captured the feel of how Spider-Man fights. There was a little bit of the wise cracking jokes, but not enough and thats what stopped this from being a perfect 10 in my mind.

J.K. Simmons was once again perfect as J. Jonah Jameson. I'm not sure who captured their characters better Simmions as Jameson or Molina as Ock. Both were great. Simmons has the rants and attitude perfect. The look. Everything.

Peters rundown tiny little shithole of an apartment was perfect. The fact he was failing at school, at work and at life was great. The only thing he was doing right at the begining of the movie was being Spider-Man.

The most perfect scene involved Harry Osborn after he found out Peter is Spider-Man. Thats right the scene in the trailer where it looks like Harry unmasks Spider-Man happens exactly as shown. I thought that was a brilliant decision to do in the trailer since it sent fanboys on a frenzy of over thinking trying to figure out who was going to be under the mask. Anyways, back to my talk about what I felt was the most perfect scene. Harry is in the mansion, feeling depressed and freaked out about what he just learned. Suddenly he hears the voice of his father. In the mirror where Norman would talk to the Green Goblin persona in the first one Harry sees his Father. After a brief conversation Harry freaks out again and throws the dagger he is holding in his hand. It shatters the mirror revealing a hidden room. He enters the room, goes through a door and finds rack upon rack of Goblin Bombs, the helmet and realizes his Father was the Green Goblin. He also spots many containers of the chemicals that gave Norman his strength. All in all a wonderful setup for Spider-Man 3.

I will be seeing this movie again on Saturday with my nephew, hopefully.

Seeing this movie really makes me want to run a Superhero game or even try my hand at writing again. Between both Spider-Man movies and X-Men movies Marvel has two excellent franchises on their hands. Hulk and Daredevil, while not as good, are also excellent franchises. I did not see the Punisher, but I have heard bad things about it. Spider-Man 3 is supposed to be out in 2007. Such a long time to wait. Blade 3 comes out in December. X3 I beleive is supposed to be out in 2006. Also way too long to wait. Man the past few years have been good for Superhero movies.
