The latest on the FIREFLY movie
TV Guide recently interviewed FIREFLY creator Joss Whedon and asked him what the 411 was on his big-screen version of the short-lived television series -- and it looks like the engine has cooled off a bit. "I have interest, I have hope, but I have no news," Whedon tells the Guide. "I can't really talk about it. When there is news, I will [tell you]. But if I start talking about it before there is [anything definitive to say], it lessens the chance that [it will get made]."
A little more optimistic is FIREFLY leading man Nathan Fillion. Speaking with The Toronto Star (and reported by Countingdown), Fillion said "The last rumour I heard, and from reliable sources, is that it's still moving in a very positive direction ... a negative direction being either it's not going, or it's not going forward. The last thing that I heard was that things were still looking good. I'm very hopeful."
The box DVD set of all FIREFLY episodes started to go on sale today. Universal Pictures, which is where the FIREFLY movie is set up, may be waiting to see how sales of the DVD set fair before moving ahead on the next phase of the film's development.
FARSCAPE mini to begin filming next week
Sci Fi Wire is reporting from a source that the new and as yet still unofficially announced FARSCAPE mini-series is set to begin filming next week on December 15.
The site also reports that producers Rockne O'Bannon and David Kemper are writing the four-hour mini and the regular stars will reprise their roles for it, all news that has leaked out. One new addition is that the mini-series does not have a deal in place yet for where and when it will be broadcast. Might it be offered as part of the show's syndication package, or to a network/cable channel?
There still has been no official announcement concerning FARSCAPE's future by the Jim Henson Company.
Mario Immortalized In Wax
Nintendo's Mario becomes the first video-game character to have a wax figure in the Hollywood Wax Museum in Los Angeles, the company announced. A statue of the Italian trickster has been placed in the museum's lobby, replacing statues of Matrix actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Mario has starred in 67 video games that have sold more than 170 million units, Nintendo said. He currently appears in four new games for the Nintendo GameCube and GameBoy Advance.
